At different times of the year and as the requirements dictate, we invite applications from the local community to help us provide help and support to the Newbury homeless via the Soup Kitchen. Based at the Salvation Army Hall in Northcroft Lane, we are open between 18.00pm to 20.00pm on a Thursday evening. Most vacancies will revolve around our Thursday evening opening hours, though some may extend further.
26/01/2018: We have a requirement for a Kitchen Assistant to volunteer alternative Thursday evenings between 16.30pm and 20.30pm at the Salvation Army Hall. Responsibilities will include preparing and cooking food for our homeless client, serving, post service clearing down and cleaning. In addition and from time to time as the need arises, you maybe called upon to collect donated food from Gregs and Pret A Manger. The ideal candidate should will need to be able to work within close knit team and have a flexible approach to tasks. The ability to work without constant supervision and under their own initiative would be an advantage. Previous experience within a kitchen or catering position would be most welcome together with any food hygiene certifications.
15/12/2017: Fitting in within your own schedule, we desperately need a Pro Bono Legal Advisor to help our clients with their administration requirements. Help to assist with rights and legislation of clients in respect of eviction by example. Assistance to ensure clients are claiming the correct benefits is another regular request. We envisage that you would work away from the Salvation Army Hall under your own initiative, meeting clients within or outside of Kitchen opening hours.
