Two Birthday Celebrations This Week

A quieter night than usual tonight with only 30 clients, but it was a lovely and happy atmosphere. One of our lovely faithful clients (since day one) had his birthday, as a result we sang happy birthday. He shares it with one of our volunteers so happy birthday was sung twice!

Lidl donated food for the first time this week which was amazing. Our local supermarkets are so generous. We had quite a lot of food left over this week so it was great to see food go up to the local hostel for the Wayfarers.

Tonight our hairdresser and chiropodist came in, they give up their own time to come in and pamper our clients. This is important to me and all the volunteers. These gestures of goodwill from amazing people help make our clients feel valued and give them some dignity.

We gave out tents, sleeping bags, roll mats and thermal socks, the weather is getting colder and wetter. Hopefully theses items will make their lives a little more comfortable.

The Soup Kitchen is not just a place to feed our homeless and vulnerable it is a place to come for a chat, support, friendship and compassion. We even have a regular group of men who play cards each week. It’s fantastic, I’m so proud of what it has grown into.
