Kitchen Helper - Thursday Evenings

Added: 16th September 2018

Due to planned absenteeism and the increase in clients visiting the Soup Kitchen on Thursday evenings, we now need to find a volunteer to help in the kitchen on Thursday evenings. Reporting to Jan, the ideal candidate will be certified to Level 2 Food Hygiene & Safety and available on Thursday evenings.

The kitchen opens promptly at 6.00pm and you will be required to attend from 5.00pm and finish around 8.30pm, once we have cleaned down. This busy role will suit someone who is able to roll up their sleeves and jump straight in.

Pret & Greggs Food Collector - Thursday Evenings

Added: 16th September 2018

Our logistics have been recently strained as we now need to collect food donations from both Pet A Manger and Greggs at the same time of 5.30pm. Reporting to Mai-Britt, we now need an additional person who can commit to making a collection each Thursday evening for us. Ideally suited to someone who works locally and can collect food from either of these establishments in the High Street, it will take no more than 15 minutes of your time. We would ask you to collect the food and bring it to our Kitchen at the Salvation Army Hall. Timing is of the essence as unless we collect the food promptly at 5.30pm, the shops will close and we will be short for the evening. This is responsible role and the ideal candidate should be able to manage their own time to ensure collections are made each week.

Web & Social Media Content Creator

Added: 17th September 2018
Reporting to Mark, we are looking for a volunteer to help publish the weekly blogs and social media updates. The ideal candidate will be willing to work from home on their own computer and have high standards of English prose, a basic understanding of HTML and image manipulation. Working on the WordPress content management system, you will be responsible for the safe receipt of each weekly report from Meryl and to generate the weekly Soup Kitchen blog. Once completed and uploaded to the website, you will need to publish to the social media platforms. Meryl normally writes her report on a Friday or Saturday, so you will need to be available to publish on either of these two days, Sunday at the very latest. The successful candidate will be given full training in the publishing process.

Volunteers - Thursday Evenings

Updated: 16th September 2018

Due to a change of circumstances of existing volunteers, we have the immediate requirement for a volunteers with mental heath experience on Thursday evenings. Reporting to Mai-Britt, a compassionate person is sought to help in our ever growing Soup Kitchen that caters for the street sleepers, homeless and vulnerable in Newbury and West Berkshire.

Duites will be varied including setting up for the Soup Kitchen session and closing down at the end of the session. You will need to be able to sit and listen to often distressed and lonely people who need non judgemental support and a kind listening ear. You must be able to think on your feet and be able to deal with often unpredictable situations. You must be able to work well within a strong and friendly team, having a flexible “muck in” attitude.

We would welcome to hear from people who can volunteer their time Thursday evenings between 5.00pm and 8.30pm on a regular weekly or bi-weekly commitment basis.

Pro Bono Legal Advisor - As Needed

Updated: 16th September 2018
Reporting to Meryl and fitting in within your own schedule, we desperately need a Pro Bono Legal Advisor to help our clients with their administration requirements. Help to assist with rights and legislation of clients in respect of eviction by example. Assistance to ensure clients are claiming the correct benefits is another regular request. We envisage that you would work away from the Salvation Army Hall under your own initiative, meeting clients within or outside of Kitchen opening hours.
