Volunteer Opportunities - Join The Team

At different times of the year and as the requirements dictate, we invite applications from the local community to help us provide help and support to the Newbury homeless via the Soup Kitchen. Based at the Salvation Army Hall in Northcroft Lane, we are open between 5.00pm to 8.30pm on a Thursday evening. Most vacancies will revolve around our Thursday evening opening hours, though some may extend further.

Saturday Session (Volunteer)

Updated: 27th November 2019

We are currently looking for additional support for our Saturday Soup Kitchen run in The Wharf, Newbury. This would be working to a rotation pattern (1 or 2 times per month) to ensure volunteering didn’t fall on every Saturday.

The session runs each Saturday between 3:45pm and 5:30pm (including setup/pack up times), and as the cold winter nights draw in, the service is proving more valuable than ever. Supporting those who are homeless and/or vulnerable, we offer a limited array of food offerings as well as a friendly ear.

Saturday Soup Session Volunteers will need to be Enhanced DBS checked as we are working with Vulnerable Adults, but this can be obtained through our HR Advisor at a small £20 cost. A Food Hygiene (Level 2)) course can be undertaken online and again this can be organised through our HR Advisor.

First Aider (Volunteer)

Updated: 1st November 2019

Whilst we aim to have at least one trained First Aid Volunteer on hand for every session, very occasionally First Aid requirements in a session can be challenging, so we would prefer two Volunteers where possible. A weekly or bi-weekly  experienced volunteer with previous medical and/or first aid knowledge is therefore required.

Types of involvement might include: Minor Injury Assessment, Bleeding and Burns, Bandage or Dressing Application, Drug and other Dependency Awareness, Mental Health considerations.

To discuss this role in more detail, please email: volunteer@newburysoupkitchen.org.uk

Please Note: All volunteering positions require an Enhanced DBS check for Safeguarding and Insurance purposes. Please ask for more information.
