Working in COVID Times.....

Due to COVID 19 we are now offering a takeaway service rather than sit down meal each and every Thursday. The support and outreach are the same as before but due to social distancing requirements we have decided it is safer to provide our support outside.

We are still holding a session on a Saturday 5-6pm and Wednesday in The Wharf from 6-7pm from our new food provision van which was purchased and converted 2021. This is sometimes difficult through the colder, wetter months of the year but providing a hot meal for someone who needs it is important to us.

One Client recently said that coming down to us on a Saturday is the highlight their week. Loneliness is a terrible thing.

Kate our wonderful hairdresser is now providing the service on a weekly basis outside. Again, due to COVID 19 this a safer option for everyone. We have a gazebo for her as the weather deteriorates.

Regular COVID and Lateral Flow opportunities through other organisations are held at our sessions too. Collaboration for Newbury Soup Kitchen is vital for us. Working with other Statutory and charitable organisations allows us to provided whatever is needed to give our clients the care they need.

We intend to continue with outside takeaway service until the risk of COVID has passed. Many of our clients have not had COVID 19 Vaccinations and we feel for everyone concerned it is a safer environment to provide what is still a supportive caring and nutritious session three times a week.

Newbury Soup Kitchen strives to help people by providing a broad spectrum of healthy food provision and outreach to care for those in need in Newbury and West Berkshire.

This is catered around the whole person: physically, emotionally, and socially. Spending time with people who need support, encouragement, and empathy helping to improve their situation and future. Gaining trust, building relationships which encourages a growth in confidence and enables individuals to make better life decisions.

Working to give vulnerable people in our society a voice.

It is very important to us that everyone is treated with respect and kindness, treated as equals, not often experienced by many in everyday society.

We love our work and are committed to strive forward to eventually open a permanent Community Support Centre in the centre of Newbury.
