Kitchen Coordinator

Position: Kitchen Coordinator (Part-time)
Location: Newbury Soup Kitchen HQ, Hambridge Lane, Newbury. RG14 5TU

Hours: 16 hours per week (Tuesday – Friday, mornings only, 8am start)

Salary: Competitive, based on experience.

Newbury Soup Kitchen is looking for an experienced and reliable Kitchen Coordinator to support the smooth running of our charity kitchen. This is a hands-on role at the heart of our service, helping us provide nutritious meals and support to local people who need it most.

Working alongside volunteers, food partners and the wider team, you will help coordinate kitchen operations, manage food donations, maintain high food safety standards and ensure our kitchen runs efficiently and safely.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate day-to-day kitchen activities, including food preparation and volunteer cooking sessions.
  • Support volunteer chefs and manage volunteer rotas and communication.
  • Receive, sort and organise food donations from local supermarkets and partners.
  • Manage stock levels, fridge and freezer organisation, and reduce food waste.
  • Maintain food safety, hygiene, storage and traceability records.
  • Monitor kitchen supplies and liaise with suppliers when required.
  • Support cleaning schedules, equipment checks and health & safety procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records and support volunteer training requirements.
  • Promote sustainable practices, recycling and effective waste management.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in a kitchen, catering, hospitality or food service environment.
  • Knowledgeable about food hygiene and safe food storage.
  • Organised, dependable and able to manage competing priorities.
  • A confident communicator who enjoys working with volunteers and community partners.
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
  • Passionate about supporting people and making a positive difference.
  • Able to lift heavy items (>20kg) and work in a physically demanding environment.

Experience working with volunteers, charities or community organisations would be an advantage.

Trustee - Vacancy

Newbury Soup Kitchen and looking to recruit a volunteer Trustee. Would you be interested? 

The role would have the following responsibilities 

  1. Set an annual budget and forecast, monitoring monthly against actuals
  2. Run forecast scenarios to support key decision-making
  3. Review monthly management accounts (prepared by the external bookkeeper), reconciling to bank statements and payroll reports
  4. Review and approve annual accounts for Charity Commission submission (prepared by the external bookkeeper)
  5. Gift Aid claims to HMRC
  6. Attend trustee meetings (every 6-8 weeks) and AGM, in person or on Zoom, providing financial updates and supporting the board of trustees with decision-making and strategy management
  7. Trustee responsibilities as outlined in the attached
  8. To become involved and attend some sessions to have a more in-depth knowledge of the charity
