Meryl Praill from Newbury Soup Kitchen was invited back to Hungerford Primary School on 14th January to receive a cheque from the proceeds of the schools Christmas fundraising events. Donations were collected from the year 2 Christmas production, the Foundation Christmas songs and the Key Stage 2 Christmas production at the Hungerford Church.
Meryl spoke to the children during their morning assembly about the work the Soup Kitchen had been doing over the Christmas period to help towards making the rough sleepers Christmas a little more bearable.
The children listened with interest to the idea that it is important to remember about homeless people throughout the year and not during the Christmas period. They were very interested to hear about the Soup Kitchen Christmas party too.
Harvey Coles and Molly Taylor kindly presented the cheque to Meryl.
Meryl quoted “It was lovely to come in and meet all the children again and to be made so welcome”. David Mayer the schools dedicated Headteacher works very hard to educate the children with every day, local matters. We, at the Soup Kitchen, are incredibly grateful for their support The money raised will allow us to continue with helping the local homeless and vulnerable people in our community”.
