Supporting vulnerable people before and during cold weather

It is incredibly important as we approach the cold winter months to support those who are vulnerable and sleeping rough.

People sleeping rough are exposed to cold winters which leads to high risks of illness and can lead to hypothermia and even life-threatening conditions.

Winter highlights the need to provide shelter and warmth to these individuals. The Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) is to open emergency accommodation for homeless people across the country. Currently SWEP is activated and if you or anyone you know are at risk of sleeping rough tonight, please visit the West Berkshire Council Offices and contact the housing service 01635 519530 (Select option 2 for homelessness).

The following document details how communities can support vulnerable people both before and during cold weather across England.
