Can You Help With Our Christmas Wish List This Year?

We are overwhelmed with the generosity of the public and community this year. It’s only the beginning of November and we are bursting at the seams with donations. At last night’s session, there were as many people from the public as there were clients welcomed into the Soup Kitchen, each member of the public with a donation. Everyone here at the Soup Kitchen wish to thank each and every benefactor for their continued support, but we have to ask that we place a pause on some donations for the foreseeable future.

We have a surplus of sleeping bags and tents.

Due to the massive contribution of tents and sleeping bags collected from the Reading Festival Cleanup, we have a surplus of these items. We are pressed for space at our storage facilities and have boxes full of nearly new items of clothing too, including footwear, blankets and sanitary wear.

How Can You Still Help?

We have created a Christmas Wish List of items that are still needed. It would be uncharitable of us to continue to accept donations that may go to waste in the future. All items needed can be selected from our Amazon Wish List which will be delivered to one of our volunteer’s houses. This is the easiest option. If you would prefer to shop locally however and support the Newbury based retailers, then items can be dropped off anytime at the Co-op in Brummell Road. There is a collection box there for us. We also have a new collection point at Harpers Garage at Hungerford.

Donations can also me made at the Salvation Army Hall any Thursday evening. All we ask is that items are delivered prior to opening our 6.00pm session. Please can you arrive anytime between 4.30pm and 6.00pm while we are setting up for the evening.

Items On Our Wish List

We have a number of specific items that we need over the coming months.

All Items Needed

Any item prefixed with an Amazon ‘A’ will take you direct to the product at Amazon. We are in desperate need of one litre thermos flasks and jogging bottoms.

Thermos Flasks

Thermos flasks are essential for hot water for foods such as Pot Noodles or hot drinks. Drinking hot drinks and food will help to keep hypothermia at bay through these Autumn and Winter months. We have run out of flasks (ideally 1 litre) to give out to the rough sleepers locally.

Jogging Bottoms

Jogging bottoms are unisex in design and ideal for all rough sleepers as they are both comfortable and warm. We need sizes MEDIUM and LARGE in colour BLACK.
